  • Pennsylvania State University

Maddy is currently a second-year student in the Penn State/Jefferson accelerated BS/MD program, and she is very passionate about instilling an appreciation for medicine in high school students. She is extremely dedicated to her studies, and is also pursuing a minor in Spanish. Maddy has several research interests, and previously worked in laboratories at Drexel University studying spinal cord injury repair mechanisms, as well Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, performing orthopedic surgeries on rats and testing ligament and joint strengths post-operatively. Maddy began doing research projects in high school, and understands how important it is to have research experience in order to be a competitive BS/MD applicant.

Maddy applied to several seven-year BS/MD programs, and was accepted into Penn State/Jefferson, Drexel/Drexel, and USciences/Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She did various shadowing and summer programs at Hahnemann University Hospital and Penn Medicine during the summers in high school, and worked as a pharmacy technician in her free time. She also worked for a diabetes non-profit targeting underprivileged citizens of Philadelphia. Maddy’s non-medical passions in high school included being the editor-in-chief of her school newspaper as well as competing in Spanish literacy competitions. Maddy hopes to continue her efforts in mentoring students seeking a place in medicine by working with them as their coach at PremedHQ.
