Swagata Patnaik is a third year student at Northwestern University and also a member of the Honors Program in Medical Education. She is pursuing her Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Science in Human Culture minor. Swagata believes that as a member of this program, she has been privileged enough to pursue her diverse interests and talents both related to and outside the realm of medicine.
Swagata has conducted public health research at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in a project analyzing the link between adverse childhood experiences and chronic diseases. She was also selected to work at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where she gained expertise in understanding protein structure and behavior in cancer cells. In addition to having a variety of research experience, Swagata is on the executive board in various organizations such as the South Asian Student Alliance and Tufaan Entertainment, through which she aims to bring awareness of different issues on campus and take action.
As a high school student, Swagata was accepted to several BS/MD programs. She hopes to give others the advice and guidance that she wishes she had received. Her experience in tutoring since middle school until college has allowed her to work with students of various personalities and learning styles. Swagata is always eager to work with students to understand their motivations and inclinations as she designs a work plan that is best suited for them. Swagata is excited to be working with PremedHQ and to have the chance to influence young, driven minds who share the same love for medicine as her.
